Abstract

Tourism has rapidly grown in the world-wide economy. In this wake, Cameroon attaches a special place to tourism for Economic growth and employment. This research aims at analyzing the contribution of the offer of tourism and leisure and their impact on the socio-economic development in town district of Yaoundé. From a careful field investigation and documentary research, it shows that the tourism leisure offer is based mainly on recreational establishments that have enlarged the urban center of the district of Yaoundé 1 at the expense of peripheral neighborhoods. The state through the decentralized Territorial communities and the private sector are the main actors in the promotion and management of leisure facilities. The latter thus contributed to the socioeconomic development this locality, are instruments of socialization and job providers. Also, they are significant source of tax revenue for the city through taxes. It should be noted that this sector of activity faces constraints that penalize its harmonious development. This leads to the slowdown of economic growth. At the forefront of these issues, we can mention among others unfair competition, the lack of maintenance of infrastructures, the exorbitant tax payments, beverage price increase and insecurity. Given these difficulties that the leisure sector in the District of Yaoundé 1 faces, appropriate solutions are needed to boost this sector. Among these solutions, we have the need for good governance of these structures of recreation, so they can significantly contribute to the economic development of the locality. Strict compliance with standards and regulations is a sine qua none condition for the running of the leisure sector and its significant contribution to the economic growth of the District of Yaoundé 1 or Cameroon as a whole.
