Methods of teaching and learners competences in english grammar: the case of adjective with 5è students at gbhs nkol-eton.

Abstract

Our research on teaching methods and learner competences in English grammar: the case of adjectives among 5 è students at GBHS NKOL- ETON, is conducted in the field of educational sciences. It provides a review of grammar teaching in English language education. Some researchers argue that the "Active Method" refers to a set of pedagogical approaches that put the learner at the center of its learning, through action, investigation, and knowledge construction rather than simple frontal transmission. The "Direct Method", on the other hand, is defined as a historical pedagogical approach centered on linguistic immersion and active use of the target language, without systematic recourse to translation. Therefore, our main question is: what are the contributions of active and direct methods to learners' competences in English grammar? The main hypothesis is that both methods contribute to the development of learners' competences in English grammar. This work is based on Lenoir's theory of Educational intervention ( 2004, p.20 ) It adopts a qualitative approach and focuses on 05 English teachers of 5è Students at GBHS NKOL ETON.We will use a purposive sampling and adopt semistructured interviews with English teachers to collect data on the contribution of different teaching methods to learners' grammatical competencies. The results of this study show that teachers agree on the importance of the active method and the direct method for teaching grammar. Overall, both methods contribute significantly to improving competences in English grammar.
