Internal quality assurance and effective professional training in selected higher institutes in the Yaounde III municipality

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to examine the impact of internal quality assurance on effective professional training in selected higher institutes in Yaounde III Municipality. Internal quality assurance was conceptualised in three dimensions: institutional assessment, staff training and development, and procedures, supervision and control. In this study we adopted three quality management theories of Juran, (1951), crosby, 1984, and Demining 1986). Methodologically we adopted a correlational research design, with a sample population of 133 lecturers from CITEC and Jimit higher institutes, a close ended questionnaire with 10 item likert scale was used for data collection and multiple regression as a model of analysis. The data were analysed using SPSS version 20 and Microsoft word. The findings revealed that institutional assessment is predictive at sig= 0.000< PV= 0.005 with the percentage score of 34.5%. For staff training and development procedures was predictive at sig=0.000< PV= 0.005 with 38.8% and supervision and control results showed that it was predictive at sig=0.001< PV=0.005 with 25.5%. These findings implies that all the three alternative research hypotheses were confirmed. We therefore, concluded that internal quality assurance has a significant statistical impact on professional training on the selected professional higher institutes in Yaoundé III municipality. We then recommend higher education stakeholders at the institutional level should take internal quality assurance very seriously because it has a significant influence on professional education in Cameroon.
