Résumé: Work is etymologically associated with the idea of suffering and constraint. If the individual spends most of his time working or looking to work, it is not surprising that he is looking for meaning in his work. Cultivating the meaning of work has today become a necessity to humanize the world of work, give a more fraternal dimension and structure the relationship with work. Indeed, the present study carried out in a recognized entropic or difficult context draws on the theory of sense making to show that the meaning of work among Cameroonian employees is an undeniable resource which emerges in a difficult environment and contributes to the definition of the relationship at work. Thus, the objective of this study is to verify that the meaning of work favors the relationship with work of BEAC agents in Cameroon. 118 employees voluntarily decided to participate in the study. Questionnaires assessing the meaning of work on the one hand and the relationship to work on the other hand were administered to the participants. The results from linear regression analyzes confirmed the idea that the importance of work favors an increase in the relationship to work (β=0.295, p = 0.001). Then, understanding work promotes an increase in the relationship with work (β=0.195, p = 0.034). Furthermore, the direction of work promotes an increase in the relationship to work (β=0.229, p = 0.013). Finally, the purpose of the work promotes an increase in the relationship with work (β=0.34; p=0.000). These results show that the meaning that is constructed in a difficult environment can constitute a resource for workers. This resource structures the relationship with work and allows the development of civic behaviors valued by managers. Support for the meaning of work could help workers and managers find ways to improve their productivity and well-being.
