Résumé: Food crop production and food security in the Eastern and Western regions of Cameroon between 1973 to 2014 is the subject of our study. In choosing to focus on this topic, we aimed to show the contribution of food crops to food security in these two regions of Cameroon. To achieve this objective, we used oral, archival, digital and other information from published and unpublished sources. In this study, the approach adopted is multidisciplinary. The analysis of our data has been carried out from both a diachronic and a synchronic perspective. The methods used are both qualitative and quantitative. Using a comparative approach, this methodology permitted us to achieve a number of results. It appears that between 1973 and 2014 in the East and West regions of Cameroon, food crop production enabled the population to ensure their food security. In these two food-producing regions, availability, the first pillar of food security, is now considered an achievement. Accessibility, the second pillar of food security, is more or less made possible by the low prices of food crops in these two regions. However, given the existence of a number of unfavourable factors such as natural conditions, eating habits and lack of knowledge about the concept of a balanced diet, food security in the East and West remains under threat. If the stability of supply, the third pillar of food security, must be ensured, the importance of the good use of available food resources, the fourth and last pillar of food security, should not be overlooked. This pillar needs to be taught to the populations of the East and West regions of Cameroon to ensure adequate food security.
