La communauté urbaine de Yaoundé et la problématique de l’insalubrité (1987-2022) : essai d’analyse historique

Abstract

he city of Yaoundé, like all the major metropolises of sub-saharan Africa, faces a major challenge related to the management of household waste or the fight against insalubrity. In recent years, we have observed a surge in garbage in several districts of the capital city of Cameroon, yet to remedy this, the Cameroonian authorities in general and the municipal authorities of the city of Yaoundé in particular have set up mechanisms that do not always seem to work. Thus, the present work aims to examine the relevance of Yaoundé in the fight against insalubrity within this political metropolis of Cameroon. To achieve the realization of this work, various sources as required by the methodological canons in history based on a diachronic and synchronic approach were exploited. Among the main sources exploited, we have some archival documents, academic works, scientific articles and books. Overall, it emerges that the measures put in place by the Yaoundé Urban Community against insalubrity in this city have proven to be mixed in view of the surge in garbage that can be observed here and there in the city of Yaoundé.
