Résumé: | The costume in cinema is the actor's acting ally and scene partner. It is the descriptor, or even the barometer, of a character's psychology. It is a means given to the actor to make his presence more eloquent and his message alive if not moving. Unfortunately, a panoramic look shows that this aesthetic aspect is the soft underbelly of Cameroonian fiction. Our research subject, which aims to study costume in Cameroonian cinema and aims to present the importance of good costume design for films and the promotion of Cameroonian culture through costumes presented in local fiction, is entitled “design of costume characters and identity in Cameroonian films” and seeks to resolve the problem of the inadequacy between the costume and its character and the absence of a Cameroonian cultural identity in Cameroonian fictions. Indeed, after having presented our conceptual framework and theory in chapter 1, we have in chapter 2 entitled costume in Cameroonian cinema, presented a brief history of costume in Cameroonian cinema then, listed some Cameroonian costumes in function of certain regions such as the center with Obom, the southwest with Toghu and the northwest with Ndop, finally to close this chapter, we presented a proposal for a design process costumes for fiction in general and Cameroonian fiction in particular. Our memory having as corpus 1 episode of each season (3) of the Cameroonian television series by Ebenezer Kepombia entitled Madame Monsieur appeared in October 2020 in the A+ channel, it is up to us in chapter 3 of our memory, to take a semiotic look on our object of analysis which is none other than the costumes of the Madame Monsieur series in order to be able to carry out a semiotic analysis of the colors and patterns of these, aiming to respond to our research problem presented above. To provide an outline of a solution, in chapter 4 we will create costumes for a Cameroonian film highlighting not only the roles of the characters but also promoting a cultural identity or Cameroonian identity motifs. |
