The overall aim of this study, entitled "Environmental education and youth participation in urban sanitation: the case of the 9th arrondissement", was to investigate the relationship between environmental education and youth participation in sanitation. To achieve this objective, a total of 150 young people selected using the convenience sampling technique were subjected to a questionnaire consisting of the environmental education scale and items from the TCP measuring young people's participation in sanitation. The data collected were processed by correlation analysis and regression analysis. Results show environmental knowledge positively influences subjective norms related to urban sanitation participation (r=, 410; p˂, 01), perceived behavioral control over urban sanitation participation (r=, 283; p˂, 05) and intention related to urban sanitation participation (r=-, 294; p˂, 05). Similarly, community awareness influences negatively to the intention related to participation in urban sanitation (r=-, 333; p˂, 05). Furthermore, media communication negatively influences attitudes related to participation in urban sanitation (r=-, 333; p˂, 05) and positively influences subjective norms related to participation in urban sanitation (r=, 349; p˂, 05). These results highlight the importance of environmental education in changing environment-related behavior. They also suggest implementing environmental education programs to equip populations in general and young people in particular with the knowledge and skills to clean up their environment.fr_FR
